Skia ora %%First Name%%,

What a summer we're having, and what a winter the northern hemisphere is getting! Some resorts in Japan recorded snowfalls every day in December and all areas now have good coverage between 140 and 340cms.

After a cold and sunny start to 2013 the snow is returning to Canada. Whistler received 8cm of fresh snow on Monday and another 35cm on Tuesday. There are excellent piste conditions, especially further up where the most snow fell. Red Mountain (175/206cm) also received 7cm on 6th January. They had an exceptionally snowy December with over three metres falling, so base depths are superb for the time of year and skiing and boarding is fantastic.

After a stormy start on both coasts it has been drier in America recently with a few exceptions. The east coast resorts enjoyed a cold and snowy weekend. Stowe (40/127cm) received around 13cm of fresh snow on Sunday and there's excellent skiing and boarding. It's been drier in Colorado this season so far but they're looking forward to a snowy end to the week, which could bring 20cm of fresh snow.

Of course in the southern hemisphere the temps have been scorching with records broken here and across the Tasman. It's a huge fire season in Oz this year and we want to know if you believe whether this related to a big snow year in NZ next season. Let us know on our latest poll.

Our athletes have been pushing their limits. The northern hemisphere season started well in December with Byron Wells finishing 5th, his younger brother Beau-James 12th and Janina Kuzma finishing 9th in the half pipe at the North Face Park and Pipe open at Copper Mountain. Byron then went on to take second place in the Superpipe final at the Dew Tour iON Mountain Champs at Breckenridge.

Adam Hall showed why he is ranked number one in the world in Slalom and three in SuperG, taking out both Slaloms and placing second in both SuperGs at the Nor-am event at Copper Mountain in December. Cory Peters placed a respectable 11th, 12th and 14th in his Sitting 1 category races at the same event. Adam went on last week to win two more SuperGs and one Slalom at the Winter Park Open in Colorado. His second SuperG he won by an unheard of margin of 6.19 seconds. Cory also impressed with his 6th and 7th placings.

Cross Country skier Adam Pohl smashed his personal best last month in the NorAm 15km freestyle cross country event at Sovereign Lake in Canada finishing ninth. Adam went on to finish 50th against the top in the world at the Canmore World Cup in Canada late last month. Jamie Prebble from Christchurch has also been competing in Canada with a 28th placing at the Ski Cross National Champs in Nakiska and then narrowly missing the qualification cut at the Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup.

We look forward to seeing more results from our Kiwi athlete as the season progresses.

Remember that early season passes start to go on sale next month with the first deadlines ending at the end of March. It seems crazy to start planning your winter this early but you can save a bundle by purchasing your passes at this time of year. We will be displaying all of the season pass options in one pace with links to where you can purchase them.

Whatever you're doing this summer be safe and have a blast.
