Skia ora %%First Name%%,

Welcome to our 2nd monthly newsletter for the summer of 2012/2013. If you thought that it was time to stop thinking about snow sports, think again because more and more ski areas have already, or are at the moment selling "Price Freeze" season passes for next year at prices as special as a solar eclipse.

You will have seen that nzski.com promoted, and advertised their passes with us recently. Ruapehu Alpine Lifts also had theirs on the market recently. Don't worry if you missed out because the early season 2013 passes will go on sale again from about April with similar 'big savings' prices. Make sure that you check back with us at that time for a national comparison and summary. Now it's Treble Cone's who are trying to lure you into buying their Super Early Bird deals early with TC dollars, a bonus riding day and a t-shirt.

It is too early to start reporting about how our athletes are doing on the global stage because most of them are only in their pre-season build up and don't start competing until after Christmas. But it is exciting to see that some of the North American Ski fields have opened early with great ski bases and snowfall already, so that should make for a great season for our athletes up there, not to mention any holiday makers from downunder. Still want to head up there this season? Well you better get in quick and ring the guys at Dive Fish Snow Travel, because from what we hear, the last of the great specials close very soon. While I was looking around to see what other interesting tidbits I could find, I stumbled upon the Mt Ruapehu Indicative Development Plan for Whakapapa.

This is an interesting read with plans to reduce the amount of lifts in the Maori gifted area from 5 to 4 and, at the same time, dramatically increase the upward loading capacity. The plan is, in the next 3 years, to remove the Valley T, Knoll T & Waterfall T and replace them with the Knoll Ridge Express, (which would start to the skiers right of the current Waterfall T's loading areas and run right to the top of the existing Knoll T), and the Delta Chairlift which would replace the Waterfall T but run higher to give access to the Knoll Cafe and around Delta Corner and over to the west.

The plan also talks about the later construction of the Western Chondola (a detachable high speed lift which can take a combination of chairlift seats and gondola pods) running from the base area up through Tennants Valley and the Yankee Slalom to above the Amphithetre which would replace the Rockgarden and National Chairlifts and, the West Ridge Kiosk. The West Ridge T would also be relocated further east and renamed the Cornice Bowl T. That and a redesign of the Top of the Bruce and extended snowmaking would bring Whakapapa back into to the former glory of its pioneering days when it introduced the first chairlift, and the first high speed lift to New Zealand ski fields. We look forward to hearing more from RAL.

Things have gone quiet on the website at the moment but be assured that we are working behind the scenes to bring you the best possible product for 2013. Like us on Facebook to be informed about the latest news and updates as soon as they happen.
