Skia ora %%First Name%%,
It's the first day of spring this Saturday and daylight saving is only four weeks away. The ski and board areas in the South Island tend to close their doors after the last week of the school holidays (Sunday 7th October) with the exception of The Remarkables, and some of the club fields and, Mt Hutt which, with its great snow cover could be open until Labour Day (22nd October). Ruapehu usually opens until at least Labour Weekend. My point is though; NOW IS THE TIME. It's peak season, the snow is as good as it's going to get and the forecast for Ruapehu is great this weekend. Go and make some memories.
Check out Ben, our meteorological guru and our forecasts from snow-forecast.com for details about the weather at your area this weekend.

There's no shortage of big name events this weekend with the Black Diamond Big Mountain continuing at Temple. They are having some great weather and there is good coverage up on the higher slopes, I can't wait to see some of the footage. Down south the North Face NZ Freeski Open is underway at Snowpark. They continue with the halfpipe qualifications today, the slopestyle comp is tomorrow and the halfpipe final is on Saturday. I have stood on the edge of the pipe at this event in the past and it is mind-blowing what these athletes can do now... and just quietly, personally as this is an expression event I think that the skiers blow the snowboarders away in the park and pipe these days.
There are way too many events to mention here but if you are single and like riding Coronet Peak is playing cupid. Ditch the bars for the night and start trawling the slopes for your mate instead. Coronet Peak is having its annual speed dating night tomorrow. Registration is free and you'll get a glass of Arcadia Bubbles to give you a bit of old fashioned Dutch courage. Then head to the lift line, we'll match you into pairs, do the introductions and get you onto the Cupid Express. The rest is up to you! NOVEL. Also, good luck to all of the teams competing in the Ngauruhoe Trophy at Whakapapa on Saturday. The weather will be great! Check out the New Zealand Snow Sports Calendar for more details.
For any athletes that are into multisport there is a new event on the calendar to compete in. The Dobson Dash (15th Sept) consists of a downhill mountain multisport event involving skiing/snowboarding, mountain biking and trail running down a 22km course. Enter Here.
nzXsports.com Ltd (publisher of Snowco & Surfco) is selling some domain names. If you're in the market to purchase some choice domain names check out what's available and give Matt a call.
CALL TO VOTE: You choose. Tell us who shone and who stunk. Since 2000 online Snowco has published an independent survey, which asks the public to judge, based upon their experience the level of service that they have received during their visit to a ski or board area. The survey consists of 33 questions relating to the service received from the snow user across 9 departments that make up the front line of a ski and board operation. There are two awards, the NZ Ski Area Service Award for commercial ski areas and, the NZ Small Ski Area Service Award for club operated ski fields.
Get into it, take care and have a blast.
