Conditions are pretty good under ski and board considering. It has been unseasonally spring like over the entire country in the last week. Snowlines have been receding fast and melt freeze conditions have prevailed. There is still some great spring riding to be had in the South Island (Te Waipounamu) while those that have visited will know that RAL has been doing an amazing job making and harvesting huge amounts of snow to keep the runs open top to bottom at this stage. Also the far west t-bar is now open for business for the more advanced riders.
The forecast for the weekend is for "a warm rinse from a top loader" (thanks for the colourful metaphor Jim) Ruapehu is in for a drenching from tomorrow morning that will last through the weekend. Snow will fall above about 2000m. The weather will reach Rainbow by the weekend bringing rain below 1800m but less wind. The good news is that the further south you go, the lower the freezing levels get so ski areas further south should receive about 5cms of new snow down to about 1700m. A wet one but less wind in the south.
