Skia ora %%First Name%%,

Another superb school holiday week is drawing to a close. What a great run it's been, this time last year most ski and board areas were still struggling to open. Early snow and amazing school holiday weather will have given most areas a boost for this season.

The weather is about to turn and unfortunately the freezing levels are marginal. This weekend is looking dismal. Bens Weather Prediction, gives you all of the detail for your area and check out the Snowco forecast provided by snow-forecast. com for a good overview.

This weekend it is a little difficult to determine whether it will be rain showers, heavy rain or cold enough to snow. It's a mixed bag with the only certainty that it will be unsettled. If you're involved with one of the events on the NZ Snow Sports Events Calendar this weekend; tune in to the morning reports for the latest updates.

Coronet has the most on and, as they are situated further east there will be spared the worst of the weather. Saturday especially looks quite pleasant. The Dynastar Lange Junior Interfield Series on the Saturday and the Red Bull King of Bob Series and Kids Day Out, as well as early bird riding and night skiing will keep young and old busy from dawn until well after dusk.

Also make sure that you take that latest gear for a spin with Volkl on Saturday at Treble Cone or with Brown Ski Shop on Sunday at Coronet. If you're not in the know, a demo day is when a wholesaler or ski shop set-up the latest skis and boards on the hill that you are able to take for a no obligation free test drive.

Snowco reviewed a digital book recently and if you're after some light reading check out "The Truth about Skiing and Snowboarding" . This 292 page book doesn't tell you how to ski or snowboard but it has absolutely everything else you can imagine about the sport from road rules, nutrition, injury prevention, surviving an avalanche and much much more.

TAKE PART WITH US THIS WINTER. The Snowco forums are buzzing with comments and commentary. Oh and you REALLY need to like Snowco on Facebook to get the latest right to your wall.

If you are looking for the most cost effective way to ski or board this winter check out our ski pass page where you can see a comparison of what the commercial areas, and club fields charge and then link directly to the ski areas pricing page. See if a multiday pass is a better option than a package deal.

Get into it, take care and have a blast.

Ski Mojo

What is your most important piece of equipment? The choice is no longer limited to Boots and Skis, now you can upgrade your Knees. The original aim behind ski~mojo was simply to stop your legs getting tired when skiing. What we've ended up with is a piece of ski equipment that not only helps skiers who find themselves out of breath, suffering thigh-burn or suffering through general lack of fitness to get the most out of their time skiing, but also helps those with a variety of knee, back and leg issues to get back on the slopes. Another unexpected benefit that came with the ski~mojo was the way that it encourages you into the correct skiing position, helping to improve your skiing technique and preventing skiing injuries. State of the art materials have been utilised to produce a piece of precision engineering which meets all these criteria. Ski mojo comfortably fits under your ski pants. Give it a go - skinning!

Breathtaking sunrises and deserted slopes. It's the latest craze, skinning to the peak at the crack of dawn. Getting out of bed is the hardest task, once you're on the snow the rest is easy. Don't be scared, skinning isn't as painful as it sounds. It's the best way to get yourself uphill without a lift, and opens the doors to a whole new world of adventure.

Getting started is simple, grab some rental gear for your first time, then when you're in love set yourself up with some tour bindings and some skins. Before heading into the backcountry get skilled up, groomed slopes are one world, outside the boundary is another.
