Skia ora %%First Name%%,

As the USA celebrates their Independence Day many in NZ are looking forward to a fantastic weekend in the mountains. Perfect early snow conditions at most areas and the superb weather forecast will see thousands flock to the slopes to enjoy the alpine atmosphere this weekend.

There is a big high pressure system due over New Zealand this weekend which will make it easy for Bens Weather Prediction, although he is very good with the details. If a basic weather icon (with a bit more detail) is more your thing, then check out the Snowco forecast provided by snow-forecast .com. Whoever you get your weather from this weekend it is going to be fine. There, I've said it... again. So get your gear out an start planning your trip.

This weekend in the NZ Snow Sports Events Calendar there's lots on wherever you are for the second week of the school holidays; Rainbow - MoreFM family fun day, Hanmer - Opening of their new facilities, Castle Hill - Mel Parsons Concert, Hutt - Sunday race series, Coronet - Browns Ski Shop demo day, Remarkables - Streets Shred Mini Shred Series. If you're in Wanaka then don't miss the NZ Mountain Film Festival starting tomorrow and early next week sees the 13th Annual Mini Games X-Games at Whakapapa.

Remember also, if you haven't visited Snowco for a while you need to be in to win with our competitions. We are currently offering up a pair of Smartwool ski socks, a Breacan Jacket from Helly Hanson and three Old Mout Berry Cider prizes.

TAKE PART WITH US THIS WINTER. The Snowco forums are buzzing with comments and commentary. Oh and you REALLY need to like Snowco on Facebook to get the latest right to your wall.

If you are looking for the most cost effective way to ski or board this winter check out our ski pass page where you can see a comparison of what the commercial areas, and club fields charge and then link directly to the ski areas pricing page. See if a multiday pass is a better option than a package deal.

If anyone is looking to rent desk space in Auckland we have a few spaces in our office in Ponsonby. Cheap as chips and we can talk snow all day!

You can WIN a Steamboat Ski & Snowboard Holiday for two in Steamboat Springs, Colorado courtesy of SmartWool. To enter, check terms and participating retailers here but be in quick as the competition closes July 31st. Let's get a Snowco reader there!

Get into it, take care and have a blast.

Give it a go - skinning!

Breathtaking sunrises and deserted slopes. It's the latest craze, skinning to the peak at the crack of dawn. Getting out of bed is the hardest task, once you're on the snow the rest is easy. Don't be scared, skinning isn't as painful as it sounds. It's the best way to get yourself uphill without a lift, and opens the doors to a whole new world of adventure.

Getting started is simple, grab some rental gear for your first time, then when you're in love set yourself up with some tour bindings and some skins. Before heading into the backcountry get skilled up, groomed slopes are one world, outside the boundary is another.
