Skia ora %%First Name%%,

We're on the spring side of the shortest days now and it traditionally gets colder with more storms from now on. Is that possible? This is the earliest and most consistent that snow has fallen to low levels for many many years.

The American Express Queenstown Winter Festival has been rocking Queenstown all week with crazy people jumping in lakes, Coronet taken over by mountain bikes and dogs, huge fireworks, entertainment and celebrations. It has been a special year for the festival, with snow to low levels all week it has really felt like an alpine resort. The other event on the Snowsports calendar is the Snow Industries Federation 'Welcome to Winter' demo day with all of the latest gear to take for a test drive, ride with a pro, or coach and on-hill music and entertainment. Get yourself up there if you're in the area.

All New Zealand ski and board areas will be open by Monday. The school holidays kicks off with record snowpack depths. The next two weeks are going to be HUGE. There are school holiday events and programs at most ski and board areas. The snow condition is cold and dry across the country with some 'hard and fast' (not ice) on some man made slopes.

The new Snowco forecast is promising sun for this weekend. Our meteorologist Ben agrees with a long term prognosis for more snow next week!

I don't want to be a spoil sport for the weekend but it's going to be cold and there is snow to low levels. Layer up, carry chains and take care on the roads. Check for road warnings here, and the Avalanche Hazard Advisory here if you are planning to go out of bounds. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!! It's going to be legendary.

TAKE PART WITH US THIS WINTER. The Snowco forums are buzzing with comments and commentary. Oh and you REALLY need to like Snowco on Facebook to get the latest right to your wall.

If you are looking for the most cost effective way to ski or board this winter check out our ski pass page where you can see a comparison of what the commercial areas, and club fields charge and then link directly to the ski areas pricing page. See if a multiday pass is a better option than a package deal.

Get into it, take care and have a blast.
