Skia ora %%First Name%%,
August is event month. The Junior World Heliski Challenge has produced champions; the stars are waiting to shine in the World Heli Challenge and we are just a week away from the biggest event in the Southern Hemisphere. The Audi Quattro Winter GamesNZ will be bursting its way onto your TV screens and our website from next Thursday. More events to follow but you are probably wondering what the weather is looking like for this weekend.
A low pressure system is moving onto the North Island on Saturday, with unsettled weather persisting in the east of the island until early next week. A cold front will move up the South Island affecting mostly the west of the country but will add energy into the low. The top and east of the South Island will get unsettled weather from Sunday and early next week.
So, the current prognosis for the weekend is; Ruapehu; Saturday - snow below 1900m later in the day and for Sunday, snow to 1200m with strong easterlies, easing and turning southerly. Rainbow; Saturday fine, Sunday snow developing & lowering to 1200m (of course for the weekend but they'll take it). The Southern Lakes all the way north to Lyford, morning cloud on Saturday should clear and on Sunday, snow lowering to 1100m.
Snow is predicted on areas closer to the divide with up to 20cms falling in the south, with lesser falls, of about 5cm due for Canterbury fields with 3cm forecast at Rainbow and 5cm at Ruapehu.
