Skia ora %%First Name%%,
What a difference a week makes! The Audi Quattro Winter Games wound up and winters back. Ohau wins the new snow award with 40cms of new snow yesterday. 15-30 fell further north through the Mackenzie and Canterbury, 20cms at Lyford AND Rainbow and 5 - 15cms at both ends of the country. Sadly temperatures were too warm for Manganui who are waiting patiently for more, and Hanmer Springs has closed for the season!
WHAT ALREADY!! Yep in the South Island many ski areas traditionally aim to stay open until the end of the first week of the Spring school holidays. (This year that falls on October 6th.) This is snow dependant and this season, after a roaring start, snowpacks are now generally on the lean side at lower altitudes. What does that mean? It means you have 5 weeks left; that's 35 days so get yourself organised to ski or board at the best end of the season this year.
Mt Hutt has extended its season until the end of the school holidays (Oct 13) and of course Mt Ruapehu stays open until Labour weekend and beyond.
What's happening this weekend? For the first time this season a giant anticyclon will be sitting over the entire country for whole weekend. If there was to be a weekend to head to the mountains this will be it. PLEASE take care on the road because with the high pressure comes Jack Frost, and pack the chains because the mountain road have had a significant amount of snow and with the cold nights it will hang around for a while.
Wanna win a snowboard? This month, Corona and Snowco brings you the chance to win a branded Burton Snowboard of your own.
This Burton snowboard with classic Corona branded top-sheet is 157cms long and valued at $680. Just click the image below and answer the simple question: Tell us, "Where You'd Rather Be."
In our last Internet Poll 74% of voters said they'd stay away from a ski and board area if a big event was on. This week we ask, "Are you going skiing or boarding this spring? If not why not?" VOTE NOW.

p.s. A big shout out to Brandex and Atomic who saved my bacon. Thanks for the loan of the demo skis for my family holiday after my old skis finally gave up the will to carry me any further.
