North Island:

For Ruapehu & Taranaki, rain easing this evening. Clearing tomorrow morning and fine spells increasing, though occasional showers persisting about Tongariro.
Saturday: Becoming fine everywhere during the morning. Southeasterlies dying out and westerlies developing. FREEZING LEVEL: Rising to 2300 metres.
Sunday: Cloudy periods. Winds turning southerly then dying out. FREEZING LEVEL: About 2500 metres.

South Island:

Saturday: Mainly fine about the Kaikoura Ranges. Cloudy periods spreading north elsewhere, with rain south of the Glaciers. Strengthening northwesterlies. FREEZING LEVEL: About 2200 metres.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy, with patchy drizzle in the west, but early rain south of the Glaciers. (Bear in mind that 'in the west' means west of the divide and that the weather seldom spills over the Alps.) Northwesterlies dying away. FREEZING LEVEL: About 2300 metres.
